Joel is an accomplished global executive who has built and led hundred-million dollar industrial manufacturing businesses to record levels of financial and operational success throughout his 25-year executive career. As an organizational leader he is recognized by colleagues, employees, and customers for his engaging and inspirational style. As a transformational influence he is recognized by investors, shareholders, and boards for his ability to turn around, expand, and strengthen businesses. 

After beginning his career in global engineering and marketing management with Schlumberger and MTS Systems Corp, Joel joined Hilti Corporation, a multibillion-dollar industrial manufacturing company where he held multiple global assignments, ultimately appointed to Managing Director of its Great Britain and Ireland operation. 

Upon helping Hilti earn designation as a “Best Places to Work,” Joel was recruited as General Manager of James Hardie Building Products Corporation, a nine-figure global manufacturing company, to run its Southern division, the company’s largest business unit. There he grew sales and profitability by double digits as well as navigated the company through the 2008 – 2010 economic downturn.  

With that success under his belt, Joel was recruited by the CEO of CertainTeed Corporation to expand their business in Canada. With responsibility for hundreds of millions of dollars, hundreds of employees, and 10 manufacturing plants, Joel delivered double-digit growth in both revenue and profitability while giving CertainTeed a significant share of the Canadian market. 

Being recognized for his ability to quickly grow businesses, Joel was recruited as CEO of CalStar Products, a VC-backed startup in sustainable building products. In this role he energized sales, transformed strategy into operational performance, and accelerated growth through product innovation, customer targeting, manufacturing expansion, and executive team building. He oversaw the securing of five new patents, increased revenue 10X valued well into seven figures, and created a high-performing leadership team. 

With his reputation as a market-proven company leader, Joel was recruited to LORD Corporation to run and strengthen their Dynamic Systems Global Business, first in Europe and then globally, as the company was consolidating its Industrial, Aerospace, and Defense businesses. Leading a senior management team of 10 and employee base of 1,500 across nine manufacturing plants and three engineering centers globally, he drove the expansion of the global business, achieved record sales and profits valued at close to nine figures, acquired an adjacent company, and ultimately led the sale of the business for 15X EBITDA valued in billions of dollars. 

Most recently, Joel launched a consulting firm focused on organizational change management and business process transformation. As a valued resource to company C-suites and boards, he delivers strategic advice and recommendations to drive, achieve, and sustain business growth, expansion, and customer engagement through operational effectiveness.  Joel serves as board member at Smith Seckman & Reid Inc., and as a senior advisor to Rantran Corporation, Graham Partners, and Ambiolock Holdings Pty Ltd in Australia.  He is also a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. 

Joel, a Sloan Fellow, holds a Master of Science in Management from Stanford University, a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from University of Texas/Austin, and a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in Civil Engineering from Princeton University. He lives in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina.
